Growing and malting barley

Newly opened distilleries

Cereal cultivation started in Northern Norway as a result of the knowledge and expertise exchange among CEREAL partners. The Icelandic partners provided barley varieties adapted to northern climate. Through the baking courses, the bakers and farmers learned how to make new cereal products. Norwegian beverage producers also visited their peers in Scotland and learned how to malt barley on the floor, which helped them to develop their own malting facilities.

JUGA is a newly started brewery in Finmark. In addition, we have a farm where we also grow cereals for malting, as well as running a restaurant, a shop and offer various tourist activities. We have got new theoretical and practical knowledge both on growing barley and malting, we also got new contacts with breweries in the north Atlantic area.
