Small communities experiment with renewable energies

RECENT supported Glen Urquhart community in Drumnadrochit to run a feasibility study for using the residual heat from a local waste water treatment to heat Glen Urquhart public hall, the day-care facility for elderly people and the community housing about to be built. RECENT’s community engagement approach has been adopted by the Scottish government as part of Scottish Hydro Nation Policy, and informed Scottish Water’s “Renewable Energy Guide for Developers & Communities working with Scottish Water”. The policy brief on existing policy baseline has been prepared.

Glen Urquhart Rural Community Association

Support from the RECENT project was invaluable to this small rural community. Ewan [project mentor] was extremely helpful in providing financial support and generating a wider appreciation of the project and this now allows us to progress the project to the next development phase. We have a completed feasibility study, a land ownership report and a video to help promote the project which is a key element of our Local Energy Plan.
