Summary
PLACE-EE is a transnational partnership of public health agencies, local authorities, academics and ICT experts dedicated to improving the quality of life for older people. Funded by the Northern Periphery and Arctic Programme of the European Union, our aim is to develop and implement locally derived sustainable solutions to encourage internet use and person-centrede-health. Older people will engage with our transnational partnership of municipal bodies, public health, universities and enterprises in a programme of community engagement and intergenerational exchange between younger and older citizens using an assets-based approach to build capacity among older people to address barriers to service access. In doing so, we will identify, promote and connect local, cultural knowledge and other heritage resources with innovative ICT approaches that enable greater social inclusion, and access to timely and efficient advice, support and care. The PLACE-EE project will provide opportunities for the transfer of knowledge, skills, products in health care for the benefit of older people and their communities
Objectives
1. Platforms for Engaging communities: Needs and assets of older citizens: We will identify a cohort of isolated older people in sparsely populated regions and use creative arts facilitators to;(a) identify social and health service needs and assets; (b) develop user-led services and solutions
2. Intergenerational skills exchange: building ICT capacity among older citizens: We will establish platforms for intergenerational skills exchange between older and younger citizens which will develop ICT skills and internet use among older people to assist service access and increase social inclusion
3. Transforming access to services: implementing solutions for service access: Following community engagement and capacity-building, we will implement e-health solutions for older citizens' access to health and public services in remote areas
Impacts
Tangible
Improved access to services: | PLACE-EE organized 61 workshops in which 462 elderly people have learnt how to use Internet and other online services to be more connected with their communities, friends, and family. By empowering older people with knowledge and skills to go online it can help them to live more independently. The PLACE-EE presented its activities and success stories in a webinar and a podcast.

Intangible
Improving social cohesion: | The project provided opportunities for generations to meet, share, learn, and better utilise the resources they have to benefit each other. Through the series of intergenerational workshops the project removed some of the harmful stereotypes and helped to build connections, trust, and empathy among the participants. The stories, documents, and other materials from older peoples´ private collections are digitally preserved in the Transnational Cultural Heritage archive.
