Project A-Value Food
Project Acronym | A-Value Food |
---|---|
Project Title | Tackling constraints on local value food and beverage chains in northern regions |
Summary
In the planned project, selected local food chains will be analyzed by using different strategic planning techniques, for example SWOT, AWOT, VRIO or five forces analysis. These analyses will include identifying constraints which are currently limiting the success of food chains in the NPA region. Based on the outcomes of analyses, development plans for the value chains will be designed in cooperation with the stakeholders (SMEs, NGOs and consulting organizations connected to food chains). In some cases, the plans will partially be implemented through selected interventions for demonstration purposes. The development plans and selected interventions aim to develop innovative and viable food chains, which fulfil the requirements of four domains of sustainability: Economical, ecological, political and cultural. The development plans and interventions can be applied in NPA region food systems as such. They are also benchmarking targets for other food chains and models which will support political decision-making and strategic planning. The co-operation and transfer of knowledge between the project participants will provide useful insight and a basis for individual and collective development of solutions for generally strengthening food chains in the NPA region.
Objectives
The strategic development / intervention plans for the selected value chains aim to develop the whole value chain, not just one part, which has previously often been the case. Typically, raw material production has been emphasized. In the food system analysis phase of the project, the weaknesses and constraints of food system development will be pin-pointed, but also strengths and opportunities. This will increase awareness of the importance of local/regional food systems and also the business opportunities the local / regional food industry offers. Such awareness is important not only among the established and start-up food SMEs, but also among regional and local decision-makers who often have a strong role in public food procurement (schools, hospitals, nursing homes) which might be a significant client in regional food systems.
