A more efficient timber harvesting

Improving the work patterns and productivity of timber harvesting SMEs

In the Finnish and Swedish NPA regions, the logging industry directly employs approximately 10 000 people. The FOBIA project assisted two entrepreneurs in Finland to improve their work patterns and perform their jobs better. Areas for improvement were identified during auditing sessions, where operators were interviewed, and their work analysed. According to the survey conducted among the operators after the audits, the productivity and quality of work improved. For example, using the machinery more efficiently to save fuel. The E-learning portal BOOTSITE gives forestry SMEs an opportunity to attend various courses as training materials (videos, demos, and exercises) are available in 3 different languages to study leadership and management in the forest service business.

The prototype application for processing compatible data can be considered one of the most useful products delivered by the FOBIA project. Finnish forest entrepreneurs are building this prototype tool, which helps them achieve their goal. Finnish time consumption models help forest entrepreneurs to get a better understanding of their business and to improve their productivity.
