Centria University of Applied Sciences together with Narvik University College in Norway developed the Digital Manufacturing Service tool. This tool introduces new digital technologies like 3D scanning, prototyping, and reverse engineering which improve SMEs’ planning and optimize their production. After testing the 3D-printing and virtual reality, Finnmaster has adopted this technology and included it in their processes.

FinnmasterVirtual reality was demonstrated. One of the company´s boat models was modified into a 3D-model to be observed in CAVE environment and with VIVE 3D glasses. The technology is suitable for marketing purposes and Finn-Marin purchased their own VIVE glasses to test marketing with VR in trade fairs. 3D printing experiments were made for testing the suitability of the technology in boat industry. The models were printed to see if they are informative enough for design and marketing purposes. Scaling the model down was found challenging, but the model is usable for model observations and marketing.
