Energy reduction practices

Exchanging expertise in energy saving

Derry City & Strabane District County (DCSDC) worked on increasing the knowledge on how to reduce the energy consumption and develop a smarter energy community. Trainings for staff and public took place together with reviewing the energy legislation to help them move forward. Based on the expertise shared by Donegal County Council, DCSDC has started the process of obtaining the ISO 50001 Energy Management System. As a result of the SECURE project, 40 energy reduction actions have been identified in DCSDC. The knowledge and experience gained during the SECURE project provided a foundation for participation in two energy-related NPA projects, SMARTrenew and SMARCTIC.

Derry City and Strabane District Council

Derry City and Strabane District Council benefited from participation in the SECURE project by transferring a good practice from another partner, the implementation of the ISO50001 Energy management standard. Other benefits from participation included the implementing of Energy monitoring and targeting system in key council buildings, and an innovative PV panel and battery storage project to test energy resilience, whilst reducing carbon emissions and reducing operating costs.
