Mark Cook reuses washed up fishing ropes in his small business, Afrayedknot, in Stromness, Orkney. Tying knots has been Mark´s hobby for years and when he found a pile of old fishing ropes on the beach, he decided to make good use of it. His handmade doormats became very popular and Mark started selling them and organizing workshops to spread out his knowledge. So far, he has recycled approximately 9 miles (14.4 km) of ropes.

AfrayedknotI think that networking has been by far the biggest benefit for me, personally, from the project. Here, in Orkney, I am quite remote and it is good to know that there are other people doing different things with whom you can exchange ideas and suggestions about different types of knots and endings. We help each other.
