Locally responsible tourism
Including local knowledge in land-use planning brings more value to the community
In the Faroe Island, the BuSK project developed guidelines for local municipalities on how to include local knowledge, participatory planning processes and tools to avoid conflicting land uses between tourism, aquaculture and fishing companies. Responding to an increase in tourism on Sandoy island, the project focused on organising participatory meetings with local stakeholders such as farmers, tourist guides, hikers etc. Input from these meetings was vital for creating practical solutions for a locally responsible tourism strategy.

VisitSandoyVisitSandoy participated in the BuSK project as we are facing a lot of changes in our area. BuSK has given us insight about how to work with changes and challenges in land use and together we have been working on solutions on how to create a tourism that does not disturb. Even though the countries participating in BuSK are very different in many ways, a lot of us face similar challenges, and we can learn so much about how to tackle our own challenges by analysing common experiences.
