BuSK ran 2 surveys in Kittilä municipality, to measure citizens’ acceptance of the mining industry. The participants drew on the map 88 places, where mining-related traffic accidents took place, 26 zones where opening of new mines was not accepted and areas where the industry’s impacts on the environment were found. In limited land areas in Lapland, the tourism activities such as husky safaris and snow scootering collide with Saami’s reindeer husbandry routes. BuSK prepared guidelines for involving indigenous communities into planning new areas for tourism activities. Reconciled land-use planning is decisive for the sustainability of these communities.
