Starting new businesses

Young entrepreneurs support their rural communities

The project assisted 14 young entrepreneurs in Northern Ireland to start or grow their businesses. By engaging young people in rural enterprise, the project helped to make rural life more attractive, provided employment and income and thereby addressed also rural poverty and isolation. Through the RYE Connect Network, young people across the NPA region can connect with the latest thinking and training in entrepreneurship, other young entrepreneurs, online mentors and potential investors. The Business Portal offers online tools for business development, face-to-face mentoring and workshops designed to instigate, develop and reboot business ideas.

I first heard about the RYE Connect project while studying at the South West College at the Dungannon Campus. I'm from a rural area outside Cookstown and have always had a keen interest in entrepreneurship. I signed up and went on to attend three RYE Start workshops at the college, this allowed me more time to research my target market, get advice and support and develop a full Business Plan for my idea.
