Sustainable mining

New socially sustainable mining programme

To promote an environmentally, economically and socially sustainable mining industry, Sodankylä municipality adopted a new mining programme. The key element of this plan is REGINA´s Social Impact Management Planning tool which allows local community, municipality, industries and researches to work together with the mining industry to develop plans, solve problems and find solutions suitable for everyone.

The REGINA project provided us with experience and tools that allow us to work together with the local community and mining industry to develop plans and solve problems. This makes us more prepared for the changes and impacts related to the mining industry. The SIMP toolbox has greatly helped us to work together with the local community and mining industry to develop plans and solve problems.
